The checklist
Twenty questions, and who to ask them
Not the camp. Your specialist, in one message, who answers from experience rather than from the brochure.
About the camp
- How many tents or rooms?
- How far apart are they, and is there planting between them?
- Are they staggered or in a line?
- Is there a generator, and what hours does it run?
- Is there Wi-Fi, and can we avoid it?
- Where does your honeymoon tent sit on the camp plan?
- Can we walk to the tent unescorted, or are we collected after dark?
About the days
- Is the vehicle shared? If we pay for private, is it guaranteed or best-efforts?
- Is the guide assigned to us for the stay, or per drive?
- What time do drives leave, and is skipping one straightforward?
- What land is the camp on: reserve, conservancy or private concession?
- How many vehicles may attend a sighting?
- Are night drives and walking permitted here?
- Is there anywhere to sit that is not the main area?
About the evenings
- Is dinner at one table or separate tables?
- Is breakfast communal?
- Will you serve dinner on our deck, and on how many nights?
- Is laundry included, and how fast is it?
- What is included in the rate, and what is not?
- What do you do for honeymooners, if anything?
How to ask without sounding difficult
Send them to your specialist in one message rather than to five camps. They will answer most of them from experience and check the rest.
That is a large part of what a specialist is for at this level: they have either been, or they have sent forty couples and heard back from all of them, including the ones who did not enjoy it.
